How to Install Windows 7 from an External Hard Drive

I have good news for people who want to use Windows 7 but don’t want to install it on their hard drive. There is now an easy way to install Windows 7 RC on you’re external hard drive.

1. Download the Windows 7 RC1 from Microsoft

2. Connect you’re external hard drive to your pc. Make sure that the computer the Hard Drive is connected to is not a netbook.

3. In Microsoft’s Windows Vista click the start button and type in “computer management” (without quotes) In Windows XP click Start –> control panel –> Administrative Tools –> Computer Management

4.You need to extract the Windows 7 ISO file to your Hard Drive. To do this you can use software like Nero, MagicISO, WinZip. I used a trial of Undisker. If you choose to use Undisker like me Click Image, Extract To, then navigate to the root folder of your external hard drive. Click Extract and wait a few minutes for the process to finish.

5. Safely remove the Hard Drive and plug it in to the computer you’ll be running Windows 7 on.

7. If everything goes correctly Windows 7 should start and the setup should begin.
